Velva app
What the Velva app collects, why we collect it, who sees it, and how you stay in control. Written to be read.

The Velva app is operated by Velva Foods Canada, a dessert company in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We make and deliver Cake in a Can. In this policy “Velva”, “we” and “us” mean Velva Foods Canada; “the app” means the Velva mobile app (ca.velva.app).
This policy covers the app. Our website, velva.ca, has its own policy. Both apply the same core promises.
We collect only what the app needs to take and deliver an order and to look after your account.
Your name, email address, phone number and password, when you create an account. Your password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form — we cannot read it.
Why: To sign you in and identify your orders.
If you choose “Continue as Guest”, we create a temporary guest profile. You give us your contact and delivery details at checkout, as with any order.
Why: So you can order without registering.
The items you order, totals, order number and status, plus the name, email, phone number and delivery address (including province) and any notes you enter at checkout.
Why: To make, deliver and support your order, send confirmations and meet tax and accounting rules.
Card details are entered on Stripe’s secure payment screen and go straight to Stripe. Velva never sees or stores your full card number. We receive and keep only the payment status and Stripe’s reference for the payment.
Why: To take payment and match it to your order.
Notifications are optional and off until you allow them. If you do, we store a push token for your device, its platform (iOS or Android), a device name, when it was last seen, and your choices (order updates, offers).
Why: To deliver the notifications you asked for, and only those.
Cancellation reasons, order problem reports and emails you send to support.
Why: To resolve your request.
For each sign-in attempt: the email used, IP address, browser/app identifier, time and whether it succeeded.
Why: To block repeated failed sign-ins and protect accounts.
Technical measurements such as launch time, memory use and frame rate, sent to Expo’s EAS Observe service. We do not attach your name, email or account to it.
Why: To find and fix slow or unstable screens.
The app keeps your cart, a saved checkout draft (name, phone and delivery address, so you do not retype them) and your sign-in session on your device. Logging out or deleting your account clears the checkout draft. Deleting the app removes everything stored on the device.
We send promotional notifications only if you switch “Offers and promotions” on in Settings.
You also have the rights Canadian privacy law gives you, including access, correction and withdrawing consent. To use any of them, email support@velva.ca from the address on your account. We reply within 30 days. If we cannot resolve a concern, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
In the app, open Account → Settings → Delete account and confirm. Your account closes straight away: you can no longer sign in and notifications stop. Nothing is erased yet, so for 30 days you can ask our support team to recover it. Only our team can do this, so email us. After the 30 days, our team permanently erases your personal details. The full steps, and an option if you can no longer open the app, are on the delete your account page.
Kept records are detached from your account and used only for accounting, tax, fraud prevention and legal obligations.
The app talks to our servers over encrypted connections. Passwords are stored hashed, sessions use secure cookies, and access to customer data is restricted to the staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will tell you and the authorities where the law requires us to if something goes wrong.
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes we will also tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
